Recent research by the FIDO Foundation revealed that 45% of consumers have had their social media accounts compromised or know a friend or family member who has. Consumer awareness of phishing attacks and scams designed to capture their personal data and take over their accounts has increased during lockdown, however, we do not increase security on their social media accounts when we see celebrities, politicians, or large companies hacked, but feel like we should.

In this webinar, we were joined by Andrew Shikiar, Executive Director & CMO of the FIDO Alliance, and Gene DiMira, Chief Identity Officer of the AML Shop. We debated how companies can help their customers protect their personal data and passwords. The discussion ranged from the adoption of FIDO compliant fast login solutions, common barriers to their adoption, and the account recovery process when a consumer’s device is lost or stolen. Of particular interest was the range of remote documentation services and how a company can validate the service delivered by those suppliers.

Gene led the development of the DIACC’s Directory of Products That Assess Identification Documents & Verify Identity, which documents the remote identity verification services available in Canada.
