Opening up

[Dave Birch] What with OpenID appearing to gain momentum as a simple, distributed, good-enough single sign-on for the Internet, I thought it would see how long it takes to set up an openid and successfully log in to a site with it.  Answer: 5 minutes.  Here’s how…

I followed the instructions, as apparently many others did, as Simon Willison’s blog. 

• First of all I went to Verisign and set up an OpenID account in their Personal Identity Provider (PIP) service.
• Then I fired up Dreamweaver and added these links to header of my home page at http://www.dgwbirch.com

• I went over to Zooomr and logged in using my new OpenID "http://dgwbirch.pip.verisignlabs.com" — and it worked first time.

Next task: I’ll see if I can set up an OpenID log in somewhere in my web site and will report back!
